Remove Image Metadata Online

Decode and re-encode raster images to remove common metadata blocks, or sanitize SVG markup without uploading the file.

Your images are processed locally in your browser. They are not uploaded to our servers.

Up to 30 files · 50 MB each · 300 MB per batch

Your image content stays local. The page itself is served by Cloudflare, but the selected image bytes are not posted to ImagesCompressor, an analytics service, an advertiser, or a conversion API.

How to use clear metadata

  1. Select one or more files or drag them into the upload area.
  2. Review the detected format. A mismatch between the file signature and its name is rejected for safety.
  3. Choose the output format, quality, optional target size, and resize settings that apply to this task.
  4. Enable first-frame or first-page extraction only when you understand that additional animation frames or pages will not be preserved.
  5. Process the batch, compare each result, then download individual files or a ZIP.

Metadata and privacy

Image metadata can describe the camera, lens, software, capture date, orientation, author, and sometimes a precise GPS location. This viewer parses supported fields locally and escapes every value before display. The cleaner uses decode-and-re-encode for raster files so common EXIF, IPTC, XMP, comments, and embedded thumbnails are not carried into the new output.

Metadata standards and proprietary maker notes vary. A successful result means the fields tested by this engine are absent; it is not a promise that every unknown vendor block in every image format has been identified.

Practical example

Suppose a JPEG file is too large for a website or message. Start with an 82% quality setting, keep the original dimensions for the first run, and compare the preview and output size. If it remains too large, set a maximum width that matches its real display size. For a fixed upload limit, add a target size and let the bounded search find the closest candidate. Keep the original file separately so you can return to it later.

Supported behavior for this page

  • Input: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, SVG, TIFF, HEIC
  • Output: Cleaned image
  • Batch limit: 30 files, 50 MB per file, 300 MB total.
  • Safety limit: decoded dimensions are checked before large pixel buffers are created.
  • Metadata: reading and removal vary by format; raster cleanup uses re-encoding.
Known limitation: No browser tool can guarantee removal of every proprietary metadata block. Verify sensitive outputs before sharing.

Frequently asked questions

Are remove image metadata files uploaded?

No. Selection, decoding, processing, preview creation, and downloads happen inside your browser. Ordinary page requests still go to the hosting provider.

What formats work with this tool?

The advertised inputs are JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, SVG, TIFF, HEIC, with outputs including Cleaned image. The tool checks file signatures instead of trusting only the filename.

Will the output be exactly the requested size?

Compression results depend on image detail, dimensions, format, and encoder. Exact sizes are not promised unless the resulting bytes happen to match.

Does processing remove metadata?

Raster re-encoding removes the common metadata blocks this tool can verify. SVG uses sanitization. Proprietary blocks and color-profile behavior vary, so sensitive results should be checked before sharing.
